4B Class

Class 4B Meet the Teacher 2024

Hello and welcome Class 4B!
We look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday and are excited about the many exciting things we will be doing this year. On this page you will find information about what we will be learning and some of the fun enrichment activities we will be participating in during your time in Year 4. There are also some links to helpful resources at the bottom of the page so scroll down if you would like to look for some websites that may help you with your learning.
I know we are going to have an amazing year and can't wait to get started!

General Information:

Please take the time to ask your child about what they have been doing at school, giving them the opportunity to share their learning. BELOW, under the sub-heading curriculum information, you will find detailed information about what your child will be learning each week in school. This may prove useful when trying to engage your child in a discussions about what they have been doing at school - especially if their standard response to being asked what they have done today is "NOTHING'. I can promise you they have been very busy and should have lots to share with you!

Hopefully having this information can help to make those after school conversations more fruitful!

If you have any questions please come and speak to me or call/email the office.

Mrs Barratt

PLEASE NOTE 4B CHILDREN WILL BE SWIMMING ON A MONDAY IN THE AUTUMN TERM. More information will be sent out at the start of the autumn term.

P.E.
Your child will be taking part in PE on a TUESDAY and a THURSDAY. Children should come to school in PE kit on PE days. Please be aware that we will be doing football and hockey outside in the spring term so children should have a jumper and tracksuit bottoms that are in line with the school uniform policy during the colder months. If your child is unable to take part in PE due to injury please write a note explaining the extent of the injury and which activities your child is unable to participate in so that we can find a suitable way of involving them in the lesson. If your child has a verruca, and therefore needs to wear their pumps when indoors, please send in a note marked for my attention. Earrings should be covered with plasters or tape for PE if they cannot be removed (please ensure your child is provided with something suitable) and long hair should be tied back. Thank you for your support.

** PLEASE CHECK THAT YOUR CHILD’S PUMPS FIT, THEY WILL NEED SUITABLE OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR FOR PE LESSONS AS WE AIM TO USE OUTDOOR FACILITIES WHEN THE WEATHER ALLOWS US TO DO SO SAFELY**

Spellings

Spelling Shed Information letter to parents

SPELLING TESTS WILL TAKE PLACE ON A MONDAY AFTERNOON. Each Monday, children will be given the results of the previous week’s spelling test to record in their Reading Records and the next set of spellings to learn will be set on Edshed. It is recommended that children write a sentence for each word in their list of spellings so that they can demonstrate they know how to spell the word correctly and use it in the correct context.

Your child will have been given a login for Times Table Rockstars (this can be found in the front cover of their Reading Record). This is a great resource to use to encourage your child to practise their times table facts (and relate division facts) in a fun and interactive way. Children will be asked to practise times tables each day in order to ensure they know them all fluently by the end of Year 4.

Homework

Each week, in addition to daily reading, children will be expected to learn spellings and times table facts as detailed in the key stage information letter sent home with your child (a copy of this letter can be found below). It is expected that children will spend 45 minutes to 1 hour on homework each week. We have decided to focus on these key areas of learning in our homework tasks as they are important in building a solid foundation in literacy and mathematics and are areas that many parents feel confident offering support in. If you would like advice or guidance on how you can further support your child at home please take a look at the medium term plans on this page to see what we are covering in school each week.
